On the Hill: Series brings whitewater competition to Vail

On the Hill Summer, brought to you by The Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute.

Today's activity: Watching freestyle kayakers in the Vail Whitewater Series.

Conditions: At the Vail Whitewater Park, the weather is warm and the water levels are high. The park, located at the International Bridge in Vail Village, is on Gore Creek before it merges with Red Sandstone Creek, and plays host to a weekly whitewater town series competition new this year. On Tuesday evening that portion of the creek was running at about 450 CFS, perfect for freestyle kayakers to show off their skills.

Today's weather: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 2pm and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. — National Weather Service
