Physical therapists start new group

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – A group of 17 veteran physical therapists and six staff personnel, formerly with Howard Head Sports Medicine, have created a new group called Axis Sports Medicine. Clinics locations are in Breckenridge, Frisco and Silverthorne, Avon, Edwards, Eagle and Gypsum. A Vail location will open soon.

Group spokesman Topper Hagerman said the move to open a new practice is the result of a decision made by Vail Valley Medical Center to take over management of Howard Head physical therapy locations.

“We asked the employees what they wanted and they decided forming Axis Sports Medicine was the best direction to go.” said Hagerman. “As an independent therapy group, the Axis team looks forward to having complete control of decisions in providing the highest quality of therapy at a fair price.”

Together, the therapists have a 49 percent share in ownership of Axis Sports Medicine. Proaxis Therapy will continue to operate as the parent company for the newly formed group.

Eagle County therapist Ted Weber, who will be operating out of the Eagle clinic, said he and his colleagues look forward to embarking on the venture as therapist-owners.

“Combining our efforts and business practices with Proaxis Therapy will allow continue access to tremendous resources such as cutting edge research, one of the largest residency programs in the United States, and the financial and administrative resources that will enhance our ability to provide the best care possible to our patients,” Weber said.
