Suspect in Frisco motel death identified as Charles Sattler

BRECKENRIDGE — Charles Sattler appeared Tuesday in Summit County Court to hear the charges against him in the death of Summit County resident Blake Bostic.

Sattler is in custody at Summit County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and third-degree assault. Formal charges from the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are pending.

Deputy district attorney John Franks asked the court to set bond at $250,000 given Sattler’s prior criminal history and unknown ties to the Summit County community. Although Franks said Sattler may have been most recently employed by a construction company in Denver, the defendant possesses a valid Michigan driver’s license, making him a flight risk, the prosecutor argued.

Public defender Summer Spector appeared on behalf of Sattler and filed several motions prior to Tuesday’s hearing, including a motion to limit pre-trial publicity. Lake County Judge Jonathan Shamis, who presided over Tuesday’s hearing for Summit County Judge Edward Casias, set a Friday deadline for the district attorney’s office to respond to the motion.

Sattler is scheduled to return to court April 28.

Autopsy Scheduled

Sattler is accused of being involved in a dispute that turned violent at about 2 a.m. Monday at the Snowshoe Motel in Frisco. Bostic was rushed to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center with undisclosed injuries following the incident. He was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m.

The Summit County Coroner scheduled today an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Those results are not yet public.

The Frisco Police Department is leading the investigation. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies also responded to Monday’s incident in a supporting role.
