Man dies in rollover crash near Gypsum

GYPSUM — An Aurora man died in a rollover crash Monday evening on Interstate 70.

At about 7:35 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 139, 1 mile west of the Gypsum exit.

A 2003 Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on I-70 in the left lane, and the Subaru drove off the left side of the roadway into the dirt median, according to police. The driver of the Subaru attempted to control the vehicle and get it back onto I-70, the Colorado State Patrol said. The driver over-corrected and traveled across both eastbound lanes, while rotating clockwise, according to police. The Subaru rotated off the right side of the Interstate, down an embankment where it began to roll. The Subaru then rolled across both lanes of U.S. Highway 6 before coming to rest on the south side of the highway on its roof.

The driver of the Subaru, a 71-year-old female from Aurora, was transported to Valley View Medical Center with minor injuries.

The passenger of the Subaru, an unrestrained 65-year-old male from Aurora, was ejected during the roll and died on scene, police said.
