Missouri woman in fatal horseback riding accident near Highway 125

Judith Packer, age 66 from Diamond, MO, died while horseback riding on Thursday, June 20.

The woman and her family were in the Buffalo Creek area, located about 10 miles up Highway 125 near King Mountain Ranch, when she fell off her horse and the animal stepped on her. Grand County Search and Rescue with the aid of a Flight for Life helicopter out of Denver conducted a retrieval of the woman’s body.

Two Search and Rescue members were flown to the scene by the Flight for Life helicopter, which then transported the body from the scene to the staging area, located roughly four miles away. A second Search and Rescue team consisting of six members was deployed into the field via ATV. Deputies from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Grand County Mountain Medical Response Team also responded to the incident.
