Eagle County cops report

Vehicle break-ins

At least six unlocked cars in Edwards were rummaged and had items stolen from them between Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. The cars were parked in locations on Lariat Loop, Arlington Place and Remington Trail.

Attempted car theft

Deputies suspect somebody tried to steal a car parked on Spring Creek Road in Gypsum Oct. 6. The dash was pried open around the ignition switch. The damage is estimated to cost $100.

Slashed tires

A truck driver parked a dual-axle trailer in the parking lot of an Edwards brewery on Oct. 10 so that the trailer could be loaded with spent grain. When he returned for the trailer Oct. 13, four tires were slashed. The damage was estimated to cost $1,200. The driver said it was his first time picking up the grain and he had no idea why someone would vandalize his trailer.

Little beats big

Deputies responded to a fight at an Eagle-Vail apartment Sept. 23. The two suspects were described as a heavy-set man with a baseball hat and tattoos, and a slender man with short hair.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they heard people arguing in one of the units. They knocked on the door and a 30-year-old man answered the door. The man matched the description of the first suspect but he refused to speak, saying he was going to jail anyway. Deputies noted he appeared to be intoxicated and that his elbows had abrasions and his right ear was red and swollen. He was detained and the other, 28-year-old suspect was interviewed along with a neighbor.

The neighbor said he heard fighting in the hall and went out to see what was happening. He saw the smaller, 28-year-old man on top of the 30-year-old, punching him in the face. The neighbor broke up the fight and the 28-year-old apologized but the 30-year-old punched the 28-year-old in the back of the head when he wasn’t looking. The smaller man then jumped back on top of the 30-year-old and tackled him into a baseboard heater.

The 28-year-old told deputies that the 30-year-old had been detained at the Vail Police Department for being intoxicated and he picked him up earlier from the station. He tried to get the 30-year-old to go to bed when they got home but the man refused to go upstairs and they started fighting.

Both men were arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
