The Little Nell Hotel’s new apres bar, Chair 9, which opens this Friday, will feature performances from Belly Up-booked artists.
With eight chair lifts on Aspen Mountain, Chair 9 represents a ninth and final stop for apres festivities. It will open in the same space as the now-closed Terrace Bar, with what organizers call a more casual approach to dining.
“It’s a big departure from what the Nell has always been,” the hotel’s general manager Simon Chen said. “It’s meant to be affordable. It’s meant to be approachable.”
Most items on the food menu will be priced under $15, including oysters, shrimp, crab legs and lobster, as well as chicken wings and sliders. The drink menu will feature beers starting at $6 and cocktails starting at $9, along with a selection of wines, sparkling wines and champagne by the glass.
The bar will be open daily from 2 to 8 p.m., and will include a live band or DJ from 4 to 7 p.m., through an agreement with the Belly Up Aspen. Chen held a similar agreement at a hotel in San Diego, Calif., where he worked with Belly Up Tavern co-owner, Steve Goldberg, brother of Belly Up Aspen owner Michael Goldberg. Chen said its a good opportunity for bands to showcase their music and garner interests for performances later that night.
“Basically, if people see the bands here, and they go, ‘Wow, I really liked them,’ then, obviously, the goal is to get them to book tickets and go over and see them live at the Belly Up later that night,” Chen said.
Michael Goldberg said he thinks the season-long agreement is an interesting one, adding that there will be a variety of acts.
“It’s good for the artist. It’s good for us, because people get exposed to different genres, and people might like them,” he said, adding that it will enhance the apres experience.
Chair 9 also will feature three 60-inch flat screens, where patrons can view football games and snow-sport films.
A full list of scheduled acts is online at TheLittleNell.com. Opening on Friday is Colorado artist Matthew Moon, who lists Paul Simon, Hall & Oates, Styx and REO Speedwagon as influences on his Facebook page.
