Seven-time Grammy winner comes to Vilar Performing Arts Center

BEAVER CREEK – The empress of soul, Gladys Knight, performs at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek on March 19.The great ones endure, and Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers during the past 50 years have been able to match her indisputable artistry. The seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed numerous No. 1 hits in pop, R&B and adult contemporary and has triumphed in film, television and live performance.Famously known for her award-winning hit “Midnight Trail to Georgia,” Knight began her eminent career as the lead vocalist of Gladys Knight & The Pips. In 1995, she earned her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the following year, Gladys Knight & The Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Since then, the Georgia native has gone on to record more than 38 albums and is widely recognized for her legendary songs, including “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “Every Beat of My Heart” and “If I Were Your Woman.” Most recently, she celebrated the release of her latest single, “I Who Have Nothing.””Knight has made herself into a musical legend both as a solo artist and as the lead singer of Gladys Knight & The Pips,” said Kris Sabel, executive director of the Vilar Performing Arts Center. “She is one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
