VAIL – On Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the Vail Public Library welcomes families to an Earth Day celebration at the Vail Recreation District Programing Room. This room is located on the second floor of the Lionshead Welcome Center, which is adjacent to the Lionshead Parking Structure. Smokey Bear, arts and crafts, and a planting station will be part of this free, family-friendly event. Goodie bags filled with eco-friendly tools will be passed out to participants. Some of the tools included are aluminum water bottles, shower timers, soil moisture meters and leak detector tablets all donated by the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District. “We have a very special representative from the U.S. Forest Service,” said Michelle Jirenec of the Vail Public Library. “His name is Smokey Bear. We are honored to have Smokey and his U.S. Forest Service Ranger come talk to the participants about being good to the Earth. Smokey will start off the event so you might want to get there as close to 3:30 p.m. as possible,” “This event is an opportunity for families to enjoy an Earth Day celebration put on by the Vail Public Library.” says Lori Ann Barnes, Town Librarian. “We will continue to offer children’s programs during the library’s renovation period. Some will be located above Dobson Ice Arena while others, such as Earth Day, will be at the new Lionshead Welcome Center. Registration is at the door.
