Local athletes leaving their marks on state

DENVER — Day 2 of state track and field saw all three local schools record podium finishes in Denver.

Battle Mountain’s Elizabeth Constien finished ninth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11 minutes, 32.49 seconds. Kaela Fahrney took 16th in that same race in 12:05.87.

The Huskies’ 1,600 girls relay team made it through preliminaries. Gabby Trueblood, Alex Raichart, Melissa Delgado and Naomi Harding finished eighth in 4:00.85. They will race today in the finals.

Demetrius Parrish took 16th in the 300 hurdles in 41.11 seconds.

For Eagle Valley, John Davis took ninth in the high jump. He went 6 feet, 3.5 inches for a new personal record. The Devils boys 1,600 relay — Jay Neal, John Long, Josiah Wiliams and Charles Fessenden — finished 11th in 3:35.45.

Charise Crabb did not make it through prelims in the 300 hurdles, but will be running today in the 100 hurdles finals. Taylor Hermosillo landed in 13th in the 800.

For Vail Christian, Ethan Pence had a mixed bag of a day. He’s probably not happy with finishing 11th in the 3,200, but has to be thrilled with fourth in the 800. He finished the latter race in 1:59.16. That is fast.

The Saints’ Isaac Sotelo was 12th in the 800.
