GYPSUM — An early morning fire Wednesday consumed an unoccupied home 13 miles south of Gypsum.

The call came in about 6:30 a.m. when passersby saw smoke and flames coming from the unoccupied house, 13 miles up Gypsum Creek Road. Because there’s no cellular service in that area, the reporting party drove to a nearby residence and called 911, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

The residence is a complete loss. However, firefighters prevented damage to two nearby structures and kept the fire from spreading to the surrounding wildland area.

No injuries were reported.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, U.S. Forest Service, Eagle County Paramedics Services, Vail Public Safety Communications Center and Colorado Department of Transportation worked collaboratively to mitigate the fire.
