PARACHUTE — Eagle Valley softball turned it up to 11 in its season opener at Grand Valley Tuesday.
The Devils rapped out 11 singles for a Spinal Tap-like 14-3 win at Grand Valley in the season opener for both teams.
Cody Osteen went the distance for Eagle Valley because Osteens pitch for the Devils. The three runs allowed were all unearned.
Everyone in the Eagle Valley lineup reached base in one form or another. On a day with many heroes, MacKenzie Cooper scored three times and had two base knocks. The Devils also had a newbie at third base. That would be Ali Teague. If one remembers previous episodes of “Eagle County high school sports,” she’s pretty good with her hands. In the spring, she plays goalie for Battle Mountain.
All in all, Tuesday was a great way to start 2013.
“I think the biggest thing is that they’ve trusted us since Day 1,” said Eagle Valley’s new softball coach, Brittany Ubben. “They’ve just worked hard since Day 1, trying to become a team. They’re amazing kids.”
The Devils host Montrose Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Gypsum Sports Complex.
