EDWARDS — “Frischholz scores for Battle Mountain girls lacrosse,” is not exactly new sentence in the Vail Daily.

Haley Frischholz has scored a bunch of goals in four years. And, yes, she and the usual suspects scored in the Huskies’ 14-3 win over Fruita Monument.

So did Berit Frischholz, Talia Miller and Sophie Bower.

“That was awesome,” Berit Frischholz said. “I’m really excited about that.”

“For this group, this is when we’re the strongest, when they’re together and supporting each other. With such a diverse group of kids from the different schools, that’s our struggle, to make sure we’re creating a good team chemistry. When they’re all together, it’s fun to watch.”Jason FitzgeraldCoach, Huskies girls lacrosse

While the game was long over, those might be some of the more important goals scored this season. The Huskies bench went nuts when that trio lit up the scoreboard.

“For this group, this is when we’re the strongest, when they’re together and supporting each other,” Huskies coach Jason Fitzgerald said. “With such a diverse group of kids from the different schools, that’s our struggle, to make sure we’re creating a good team chemistry. When they’re all together, it’s fun to watch.”

This unity is key as Battle Mountain plays five games in the next eight days with the playoffs on the line.

Not an original joke

The Doctor was in the house on Friday against the Wildcats.

That’s not a new line to Chloe Doctor, who had five goals.

“I’ve heard it quite a few times, I’ve go to say,” she said. “I don’t mind it.”

Thanks, though.

Julia Heid had a hat trick, and Marti Schmidt scored twice, as did that Haley Frischholz person.

Battle Mountain built a 7-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. The Huskies used the second half to play everyone and regulars in different positions.

No. 19?

In his postgame chat with the team, Fitzgerald pointed out that the Huskies had surged into the No. 19 spot in the rating-percentage index recently after being in the high 20s for the last few weeks. Such a surge is hard to explain as the Huskies have only played two games in the last two weeks or so, but the team will happily accept that as reality.

The top-20 teams make the playoffs, and that is the goal.

“We’ll keep our fingernails on the bubble as long as we can,” the coach said.

Battle Mountain has a crazy eight days ahead, starting with Durango today at 10 a.m. The Huskies are at Steamboat Springs on Monday, host Grand Junction on Wednesday are at Telluride on Thursday and host Eagle Valley a week from today.

“We’re really trying to keep our endurance up,” Doctor said. “We’ve got a big stretch of games coming up, and we’re trying to play our hardest. We’re just trying to play Huskies lacrosse.”
