Huskies defeat Rifle

RIFLE — Battle Mountain soccer took care of business Tuesday afternoon, winning at Rifle, 10-0.

The Huskies moved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Western Slope.

Roberto Diaz netted a hat trick, Brandon Osorio had two and Pedro Hernandez also scored. Otherwise, the Huskies had newbies when it came to the scoring column.

Uriel Lopez had two, and those are his first pair of varsity goals. Congratulations also to Sands Simonton. Brandon Rodriguez also netted his first two. Brandon is Diego Rodriguez’s brother. Diego was known as Frijolito, or little bean, in his playing days. So that makes Brandon, Frijolitolito, if you’re following at home.

Battle Mountain hosts Eagle Valley today at 6 p.m.

Devils draw with Summit

Eagle Valley soccer played to a gutsy scoreless draw against Summit County on Tuesday night at Hot Stuff Stadium in Gypsum.

The Devils played with just 10 men for almost the entire second half and 20 minutes of overtime due to a red card.

“It was a good result,” Devils coach Bratzo Horruitiner said. “With 10 men, we played the ball well and generated chances. (Summit) was playing through balls all during the game, and we recognized it.”

Eagle Valley is 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the 4A Slope. Of note is that the Devils have gone to overtime three times already in the season.

“We’re giving everyone a game.”

Colin Rouaud and Fabian Venzor shared the shutout in net.

Eagle Valley heads west to face Battle Mountain tonight.

VMS falls to Roaring Fork

Vail Mountain School soccer had a slow start — this is not a recording — but this time could not rally for the win, falling to Roaring Fork, 4-3, in overtime in nonleague action at venerable Bandoni Alumni Field.

VMS was down, 1-0, and, 3-1, and got two goals from Clayton Kirwood and one from Garrett Cerny before the Rams got the golden goal in extra time.

“I think one thing we learned is, regardless of the opponent, we have to come out stronger,” VMS coach Pete Petrovski said. “We can’t come out like that on a regular basis. There are too many good teams in our league to do that.”

VMS (4-2) head to Basalt Tuesday for another nonleague game.
