Snowstorms continues to juggle preps calendar
January 31, 2014
EAGLE COUNTY — Snow continues to make a mess of the schedule for Battle Mountain, Eagle Valley, Vail Christian and Vail Mountain teams.
Vail Christian basketball teams are the only squads scheduled to play today. While the Saints are awaiting a final confirmation their games, the Saints girls basketball team is hosting West Grand at 1 p.m., while the boys team is still planning to head to Gilpin County, which, ironically, is a makeup of a previous snowout.
Today's Nordic meet in Minturn got snowed out, primarily out of concern for visiting teams getting here. Take two for Nordic is now next Saturday.
Eagle Valley basketball's games against Palisade today are postponed. The Devils now host Palisade on Monday at 5:30 and 7 p.m. The Devils hoops teams then go to Delta on Tuesday in another makeup.
Battle Mountain basketball was heading to Delta on Thursday. That's been reset for Feb. 11. The Huskies also won't be going to Palisade today. That reschedule is now tentatively on Wednesday.
Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain wrestling are both not heading to the Abe Lincoln Tournament in Denver. That's a combination of travel concern and school snow days. If there's no school, then there's no practice, and that makes it hard for wrestlers to make weight in their respective divisions. The Huskies are still trying to reschedule a triangular from earlier this week against Steamboat Springs and Summit County.
Battle Mountain hockey is making up is date at Resurrection Christian on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
This past week's alpine meet at Ski Cooper got moved to this Thursday. That means back-to-back races with full-field events — Ski Cooper on Thursday and Loveland on Friday, both of which should be nice previews of the upcoming state meet.
