Thursday’s preps wrap
GYPSUM — That’s a comeback, kids.
Eagle Valley softball scored six in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome a 10-5 deficit against Rifle for an 11-10 win against the Bears in Game 2 of a doubleheader at the Gypsum Sports Complex on Thursday. Rifle won the first game.
Savanna Vasquez, Caroline Paxson and Tori Stone all had RBIs during the comeback. Maddy Callis scored on passed ball to close it to 10-9. Down to her last strike, Regan Bossow knocked in Stone to tie it and an errant Rifle through sent Paxson scampering home with the winning run.
“Part of it is just playing a good game and all the way through and avoiding mistakes,” Devils manager Jason Buvala said. “It’s nice to put together a game where we made a few mistakes, but were able to keep fighting and pull out a win.”
Eagle Valley (7-9 overall and 2-6 in the Slope) is scheduled to play Meeker a week from Friday.
