Thursday’s preps wrap: Huskies baseball; Devils lax
EDWARDS — Battle Mountain baseball’s seniors got it done on Wednesday in a 3-2 win over Aspen.
Senior Hunter Meier rapped out a hit during the bottom of the first, and senior Robert Redinger touched them all with a two-run bomb to left for a 2-0 lead.
When he wasn’t slugging, Redinger put together five innings of two-run ball on the mound. Tied at two during the bottom of the sixth, Eric Biggs, who is not a senior, did it himself. He singled, stole second and third and came home on the Aspen catcher’s errant throw.
The Huskies (2-5) had a little drama in the top of the seventh. Aspen got a runner on, but Meier threw a dart to second for a caught stealing. Franklin Reilly, surprisingly enough, a senior, pitched the final two innings and got the last out on a called third strike.
Battle Mountain is down in Gypsum on Saturday in what is the Holy Family doubleheader. Eagle Valley plays Holy Family at 11 a.m., followed by the Huskies vs. the Front Range school.

Tigers tame Devils
Eagle Valley girls lacrosse lost its league opener to Summit County, 11-7, on Tuesday at John Ramunno Field in Gypsum.
The visiting Tigers led, 7-3 at the half.
“I’m very happy with the way they played the second half,” Devils coach Jessi Dondero said. “I think we struggled a little in the first half. The girls just wore themselves out in the first half, instead of making smart passes, and moving the ball that way.”
Camille Blose scored four times, including second-half hat trick for the Devils. Lindsay Martinez, Jillian Byron and Rachel Devlin also found the back of the net for Eagle Valley.
The Devils (2-2) host Steamboat Springs on Monday,
