DENVER — Eagle Valley wrestling advanced three wrestlers through the first round of the 3A state-wrestling tournament on Thursday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Luke Morrissey defeated Moffat County's Karson Cox, 11-4, in his state debut. The Devils' returning state-placers, Raul Lopez and Noah Hermosillo, also advanced.
106 — Luke Morrissey, Eagle Valley, dec. Karson Cox, Moffat County, 11-4; Morrissey faces Santana Hernandez, Weld, in second round.
113 — Ryan Moltz, Salida, dec. Lucas Comroe, Eagle Valley, 7-0; Comroe wrestles L.T. Torres, Berthoud, in consolation bracket.
132 — Raul Lopez, Eagle Valley dec. Tyler Vigil, Monte Vista, 7-4; Lopez wrestles Anthony Quintana, Buena Vista, in the second round.
138 — Noah Hermosillo, Eagle Valley maj. dec. Jared Lecuyer, Elizabeth, 8-0; Hermosillo wrestles Matt Bailey, Berthoud in the second round.
145 — Quentin Jiner, Weld, fall Caleb Laisure, Eagle Valley, 2:44; Laisure wrestles Ty Addington, Florence, in the consolation bracket.
152 — Deron Bletson, La Junta, fall Davis Ward, Eagle Valley, 3:48; Ward wrestles Drake Zimmerman, Moffat County, in the consolation bracket.
160 — Dax Bender, La Junta, fall Justin Morrison, Eagle Valley, 2:48; Morrison wrestles James Petterson, Brush, in the consolation bracket.
132 — Grant Willits, Pueblo County tech. fall Mario DeLara, Battle Mountain, 16-1; DeLara wrestles Adrian Rincon, Erie, in the consolation bracket.
