EDWARDS – Vail Mountain girls soccer squeaked away with a win, beating Vail Christian, 2-0, at Freedom Park in Edwards Tuesday with two Avery Bellis goals.-
The game started off quickly for Vail Mountain as it was pressuring the Vail Christian defense with a lot of shots on goal. The first goal came early in the first half. After a few shots on goal, Bellis was able to bury one in the back of the net.-
A short period after Bellis got her first goal, she was able to capitalize on her second by rocketing it into the left side of the net.-
At the end of the first half, Vail Mountain had the lead 2-0 and looked comfortable and confident.-
Going into the second half Vail Christian was not rocked at all by the Vail Mountain offense and shut the Gore Rangers out the second half, coming off some good goal keeping by Vail Christian’s Kierra Kalakewich and a good effort from the Saints defense.-
Bellis was excited after the win and getting the two goals for her team.
“It was good. It felt nice,” said Bellis. “I feel like we have a lot more to improve on, but it felt good to come out on this season with a win”.
Even with the loss the Saints coach Lauren Mutter still had some positives to take out of the close game.
“I think we had a great first game,” said Mutter. “We had a great defense and that’s what we were focusing on and I thought we played our hearts out.”–
