Welcome to the Sunday funnies, which aren’t always funny

Welcome to the Sunday funnies, with the following submitted for your consideration.

Ouch

OK, this really hasn’t been a funny start to training camp for the Broncos. Running-back Devontae Booker and linebacker Shane Ray going down with injuries.

Booker should make it back by the beginning of the regular season while Ray will miss some early games.

As important as it is for the Broncos to establish a running game to make sure whoever their quarterback is — more on that later — doesn’t get killed, all eyes in Eaglewood should be on that offensive line.

At left tackle, first-round pick Garrett Bolles already appears to be getting first-team reps, which is the way it should be. That’s a start.

Watch the offensive line, people. This is the key.

About that quarterback

I’m mixed on our latest round of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. Because of that offensive line, it was hard for Siemian to have an opportunity to succeed this past year. However, I keep going back to that first Chiefs game to cap Thanksgiving weekend, when Siemian threw some big-league passes.

I know John Elway has said this is going to be an open competition, but wouldn’t we be going back to square one of last season by starting essentially a rookie in Lynch?

Unless Lynch looks like the second coming during the preseason, I’m inclined to go with Siemian.

Chill, Von

In light of the early-camp injuries, I’d let the Broncos defense take it easy. Seriously, how much camp does Von Miller need? The answer is, “As much or as little as he wants.”

The entire unit knows what it’s doing. The Broncos just need these guys healthy for go time.

No kidding

“Tix for Mayweather-McGregor bout slow to sell,” says an ESPN.com headline. Have you seen an actual boxer get a clean shot on Floyd Mayweather? That would be a no.

So how is Conor McGregor going to do that? This is a nonevent, folks, and asking $99 for pay-per-view is not happening.

The pay-per-view that is happening on my set is Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 16. That’s a fight, kids.

Cooperstown time

Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines and Ivan Rodriguez are worthy enshrinements. Bagwell probably got in merely on his career against the San Francisco Giants — OK, he beat up everyone.

Raines had to wait, which is unfortunate. He harkens back to a different time of baseball when swiping 90 feet was a big deal. I kind of miss those days.

Pudge is a “no-kidding” pick. No debate.

John Schuerholz, the general manager of the Atlanta Braves, is worthy. The only question was that the Braves never won more than one title during that run — 14 consecutive division titles are ridiculous. Also, don’t forget that he built the 1985 Royals.

As for commissioner Bud Selig getting the call? That would be egregious. The 1994 strike, which wiped out the World Series for the first time in 90 years, set baseball back and the only thing that saved the game was steroids, which is also a black mark.

Hang in there, Rockies

Yes, getting swept in St. Louis isn’t stellar, nor is having to play the Nationals three times in a little more than 24 hours. But …

Have you looked at the August schedule for the home nine? There’s some nice green grass out there. The Rockies host the Mets and Phillies, followed by two games at Cleveland and three in Florida. Colorado’s home for the Braves and the Brewers and then at Kansas City and Atlanta. That’s a good stretch there.
