Taste a flight of Napa Valley wines in Avon
Ryan Summerlin September 11, 2012
AVON – Vin48 restaurant in Avon hosts winemaker Michael Hendry of Napa winery Hendry Wines Wednesday night. Hendry will be at vin48 from 6 to 9 p.m. to pour a fight of three Hendry wines. Any guest who orders the pinot flight will be greeted tableside by Hendry, who will share a little back-story and insight into these delicious wines from California’s Napa Valley
The Hendry family has been farming the same vineyard in Napa since 1939. The lessons learned over 70 harvests provide the Hendry’s with a level of knowledge and a connection to the land that is rare in Napa. The Hendry Ranch is composed of 114 acres of vineyard situated in the hills nort west of the town of Napa. This latitude in
the valley experiences substantial marine influence, and allows us to grow 10 different varietals, each carefully distributed among our 47 vineyard blocks. All Hendry wines are made from estate grapes, and 2011 marked the 20th vintage of the Hendry label. The wines are crafted to highlight the terroir of the vineyard.
George Hendry has lived on the ranch and tended its grapevines his entire life. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from UC Berkeley, and has divided his time between the vineyard and the design of cyclotrons ever since. Today, as president of Cyclotron Inc., he continues to design and manufacture these particle accelerators, used to produce radio pharmaceuticals for medical imaging.
Michael Hendry is George’s nephew, and has been an important part of operations at the Hendry Ranch for 25 years. Michael manages the vineyard and directs sales and marketing for Hendry.
