EAGLE — A Bond woman has pleaded not guilty in the attempted murder of her boyfriend.
Emily Anderson, 28, made an appearance before District Court Judge Thomas Moorhead on Tuesday.
Anderson is accused of starting an altercation with her boyfriend of three years. Prosecutors say the fight ended when she beat him unconscious with a table leg.
She will fight the three felony charges in a seven-day trial, scheduled to begin Jan. 21. The charges include:
• Attempted first-degree murder, a Class 2 felony.
• Assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, a Class 3 felony.
• Trespassing of a dwelling, a Class 5 felony.
Moorhead ruled that there was probable cause for the case to move forward, and that’s when Anderson entered her not-guilty plea.
Deputy District Attorney Joe Kirwan said the charges stem from an incident on the evening of April 27. He alleged that Anderson attacked her boyfriend with a blunt object at his home and then fled.
Friends of the victim found him lying in a pool of blood and called 911, Kirwan said.
When Eagle County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they noticed a disconnected table leg that appeared to have blood on it, Kirwan said. By that time the victim had regained consciousness.
The man had suffered a large head wound and was taken to the hospital, where it was determined he had suffered a skull fracture, bleeding inside his skull, a broken left forearm and multiple cuts on his scalp and face.
Police located Anderson the following day and arrested her. She’s being held on $25,000 bond in the Eagle County Jail.
District Attorney Bruce Brown said his office is ready to pursue the charges.
“Through her alleged actions, Ms. Anderson showed very obvious malice and a clear disregard for the well-being of the victim, not only by inflicting such serious wounds, but then by leaving the scene and later refusing to cooperate with authorities,” Brown said. “Our office is prepared to pursue these charges since she has refused to make any admission of guilt.”
The public defender’s office is defending Anderson.
