Boy run over by Vail bus, seriously injured

VAIL — A town of Vail bus ran over a child Saturday, leaving the 6-year-old boy in serious condition.

The incident occurred at 6:55 p.m. when a bus on the in-town route heading westbound on East Meadow Drive across from the Solaris Plaza in Vail Village struck the child near the vehicle’s front door. According to police, the driver, a 66-year-old male, was unaware of the circumstance until witnesses alerted him.

The boy was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center and was later transferred to Denver Health. The family is from Illinois.

The Vail Police Department has asked for assistance from the Colorado State Patrol to investigate the accident.

The request for assistance has been made to ensure the integrity of the investigation, the town of Vail said in a press release.

Other responding agencies included Vail Fire and Emergency Services and Eagle County Paramedic Services.
