Tickets on sale for Edwards Interfaith Chapel gala
February 20, 2013
Edwards Interfaith Chapel’s annual gala will feature opera performers from around the country at its annual fundraiser on March 16. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
This year’s event is entitled “Parisian Nights,” and the evening’s music will reflect the event’s French flair. David Walford of Splendido will match the arias with French food courses throughout the night.
Brian Hotchkin, artistic administrator for Opera Santa Barbara, is excited to again work with the committee in assembling these extraordinary performers, noting: “This is such a wonderful way to raise money for this worthy organization. Opera is perhaps the most collaborative and inspired of art forms, which seems so appropriate for Edwards Interfaith Chapel, which is so grounded in both collaboration and inspiration.”
This is the second year that opera singers will appear. This year’s performers include Sara Heaton, soprano; Jessica Medoff, soprano; Matthew Edwardsen, tenor; John Boehr, baritone; and Michel Bunchman, piano. These singers have appeared in leading roles around the country, including at the Santa Fe Opera, New York City Opera, Utah Opera, Sarasota Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, and Opera Santa Barbara.
Because of this year’s “Parisian Nights” theme, guests can expect French operatic repertoire, with selections from operas including “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, “Faust” and “Romeo and Juliette” by Charles Gounod, as well as hit tunes including the famous duets from “Pearl Fishers” and “Lakme.” In addition, there will be a few hit tunes from opera set in Paris, like “La boheme.”
“I’m thrilled to work with Edwards Interfaith Chapel again in bringing singers of this high quality to Vail for this event,” Hotchkin said. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with each of these performers and know the huge talent that will be in that room on March 16; I can guarantee that this beautiful music, along with the fabulous food and wonderful company will make this a truly unforgettable evening.”
