Top wine importer to visit Avon

AVON – French wine importer Peter Weygnadt will be pouring wine from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at vin48 in Avon today as part of the restaurant and wine bar’s January tasting series.Peter Weygandt, of Weygandt-Metzler Imports, will pour 12 of his favorite French and Austrian wines in vin48’s loft.”We are thrilled to have Peter Weygandt here pouring,” said Greg Eynon, wine director and owner of vin48. “This is a great opportunity to taste 12 wines from on of the top importers in the country.”Since 1987, Weygandt has imported French wines and gained a national and international reputation for the quality of his selections and his portfolio of top “boutique” French wines. Peter Weygandt Selections are a near constant feature of top wine journals including Robert M. Parker, Jr.’s The Wine Advocate, The Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, and Burghound. Weygandt has been mentioned in articles in Time Magazine, The New York Times, and featured in Business Monthly and numerous times in various wine publications, most recently Food & Wine Magazine. In recent years he expanded his portfolio to include Italian, German, Austrian, Australian, Slovenian and Spanish wines, more than 120 producers in all.”Wines with an extra dimension of character come from special winemakers – people of talent who work hard, but also have that extra feeling about what they do that comes through in their wines,” Weygandt said. “Our main objective is finding these people from all around France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia.”Weygandt focuses on bringing European wines to the market that are committed to sustainable, organic and biodynamic winemaking practices.”The goal of all great winemaking is to, through the vine, express a wine’s individual terroir, (the particulars of its geography) as unique characteristics of color, fruit and minerality, with purity and clarity, and in doing so provide pleasure,” said Weygandt. “In this pursuit, many of our winegrowers employ organic or biodynamic farming systems that respect both the integrity of the land and the character of wines they produce.”Charles Hays, vin48’s chef and owner, will pair the wines with appetizers in the restaurant’s loft above the wine bar.
