See March Fourth Tonight

March Fourth Marching Band takes the stage today at 6:30 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater as part of the Hot Summer Nights free concert series. The brainchild of Portland multi-instrumentalist John Averill, the band produces music that is a swirling tapestry of swing, hip-hop, jazz, funk, reggae and gypsy punk channeled through a brassy ensemble of saxophones, horns and a freight train percussion corps. Concert goers get a two-for-one with pounding musical melodies and circus-like attractions, including stilt walkers, magicians, fire breathers, acrobats and baton twirlers.
