Man dies in Highway 131 crash

EAGLE COUNTY — A 21-year-old man died Saturday night in a single-vehicle car crash near State Bridge on Highway 131.

Authorities were notified around noon Sunday of a person trapped underneath a car near milepost 14 on Highway 131. When emergency personnel arrived, they found Dalton Mason, of Bond, unresponsive. Mason was pronounced dead on scene.

It is unknown when the crash occurred, but the initial investigation is pointing to sometime Saturday night. It appears as though Mason was the only occupant in the 2000 Audi sedan, and he was not wearing a safety belt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but alcohol and excessive speed are being investigated as possible contributing factors.

The Colorado State Patrol is requesting anyone with information pertaining to the crash to please call 970-945-6198, and also would like to remind drivers to always designate a sober driver and to always your safety belt.
