True Blue to rock Minturn on Thursday

MINTURN — The music continues tonight at Little Beach Amphitheater as True Blue, featuring Tanya Shylock and Bill McKay, takes the stage. Listeners are invited bring food and friends to relax by the Eagle River.

Tanya Shylock brings R&B-influenced vocals, channeling all the great female soul singers of the ’70s.

ABOUT BILL MCKAY



Bill McKay began his musical journey at the age of 6, taking classical piano lessons and singing in a church choir as a soprano. In high school, he studied jazz theory and ear training, and sang in the choir and barbershop group, touring in England and Amsterdam. McKay began playing rock ‘n’ roll in bars and clubs at the age of 16 with various bands.

Moving to Colorado in 1987 to attend Colorado College, McKay played with the band The Circle while studying world music. He also worked with the dance department, accompanying modern dance classes and composing a thesis around choreography and music. After graduating in 1991 with a political science degree, McKay moved to Boulder and began playing with Band Du Jour

Band Du Jour recorded and toured extensively from 1990-95, including a two-month tour to South Korea and Japan. Band Du Jour was a Colorado favorite, and shared the stage with many of the great bands of the early ’90s, including The Aquarium Rescue Unit, Blues Traveler, The Samples, Phish and Big Head Todd.

In 1995, McKay joined the Derek Trucks Band as lead singer and keyboardist. He toured and recorded with the band for five years, sharing the stage with greats such as Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule, Phil Lesh and many others.

Returning to Colorado in 2000, McKay joined Leftover Salmon and recorded, toured and performed with them for 10 years. During this time, he also created his own band, the Bill McKay Band. Proud to be a part of the Colorado music scene for 25 years, Bill McKay keeps moving forward in his pursuit of musical adventure.

ABOUT THE CONCERT SERIES

The concert series is presented by Alpine Bank, the Minturn Community Fund and the town of Minturn. Shows start at 6 p.m. The concert is rain or shine. Cans of 3.2 beer is allowed, but there is no glass allowed in the park.
