VAIL — TripAdvisor recently announced its 12th annual Travelers’ Choice awards for hotels, and two Vail hotels are among the winners. The awards honor the world’s most outstanding properties in the categories of Top Hotels, Bargain, B&Bs and Inns, Family, Luxury, Romance and Small Hotels and are based on the reviews and opinions of millions of TripAdvisor travelers around the globe. In total, 7,123 properties worldwide won awards in 2014, with 144 in the United States.
The Vail winners are:
• Tivoli Lodge: No. 7 overall Top Hotel in the U.S. (up from No. 18 in last year’s awards).
• Sonnenalp: Rated as the No. 24 Luxury Hotel in the U.S.
Nine hotels from Colorado were honored, tying with South Carolina for the third most-awarded state behind California and Florida.
“We’re excited to recognize the world’s best properties, based on the opinions of those who know them best — the millions of travelers around the globe who come to TripAdvisor to share their experiences,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor.
Italy featured the most hotel winners with 152. The U.K. had 145 properties recognized, and the U.S. and France each featured 144 award winners.
