Vail community meeting is March 11

VAIL — The town of Vail’s continuing efforts to enhance the economy, grow a balanced community and elevate the quality of the guest experience will be the focus of the town’s Annual Community Meeting and Open House, which will be held March 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Donovan Pavilion. The event is sponsored by the Vail Town Council and staff.

Full-time and part-time residents, business owners, property owners, employees and others interested in the state of the community are encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with informational displays on a variety of topics of community interest.

The evening’s program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome by mayor Andy Daly, introductions by town manager Stan Zemler and brief updates on projects including plans for the Vail Interstate 70 underpass, the Timber Ridge redevelopment, residential wildfire assessment, community-wide recycling, Gore Creek water quality and the planned remodel of the Golf and Nordic Center Clubhouse. Special guests will include Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Resorts, and Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation. Jarnot will provide an update on Vail Mountain activities, and Folz will share information on planning for the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships. An overview of the town’s financial performance will also be presented including information about record high sales tax collections in 2013.

A question and answer session will follow the presentations with time for additional one-on-one discussions and open house displays for the remainder of the evening. Representatives from the town’s partner agencies, including the Vail Recreation District, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District, U.S. Forest Service, Colorado Department of Transportation and local waste hauling companies will also be on hand to answer questions.

This is the 14th year for the part-business, part-social gathering. Parking is free and light appetizers will be served. The meeting will be recorded by Public Access TV 5 for replays throughout the month. For more information, call 970-479-2115.
