Vail Daily column: Counting down to 2015
January 20, 2014
Feb. 1 will be a communitywide celebration of the one year countdown to the 2015 FIS Alpine World Championships. Ski & Snowboard Club Vail is celebrating the United States Ski and Snowboard Association’s National Club Day and providing an opportunity for any interested child to try Ski & Snowboard Club Vail for free!
In the past few weeks, readers have learned about every one of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s sport programs and the great coaches who are teaching the techniques and tactics of their sports, as well as our core values of character, courage and commitment. Nordic and alpine racing, snowboard, freestyle and freeskiing include the sports in the Olympic pipeline that kids as young as 6 are able to pursue as members of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail.
GIVE THE CLUB A TRY
Whether interested in our multi-discipline season long Saturday Future Stars program for 6-9 year olds or entry level weekend programs in each of our gravity sports (Nordic not included), Feb. 1 is your opportunity to try us out.
Starting at Golden Peak at 12:30 p.m. and going through 4 p.m., it is an opportunity to experience Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, meet some of our coaches and ski or ride with some of the kids. Open to any youngster who may have an interest in joining Ski & Snowboard Club Vail next year, checking out the club is completely free (lift pass not provided). Pre-registration is required and available along with more information at http://www.skiclubvail.org under the “Events” tab at “Other Events.”
For athletes already enrolled in weekend or part-time programs at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail and all those interested in full-time programs, our academic partners at Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy, Vail Mountain School and Winter Tutorial will be on hand at an admissions open house for all of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s full-time programs. Come by the Aspen Room at Manor Vail on Feb. 1 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to learn more. More information is available at http://www.skiclubvail.org under the “Events” tab at “Other Events.”
COUNT DOWN TO SOCHI
The next seven days will prove to be an incredibly exciting time as a record number of our athletes and alumni continue to display countless examples of character, courage and commitment in pushing their physical and mental abilities to the limits in order to try to secure a spot at the Sochi Olympics. Please join me in wishing them well in their pursuit of excellence. During the One Year Countdown Celebration on Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Solaris Plaza in Vail we will be recognizing the current and alumni Ski & Snowboard Club Vail athletes competing in the Sochi Olympics. Come celebrate with us!
