Vail Daily launches next ‘Steal the Deal’

EAGLE COUNTY – The Vail Daily is the latest Colorado Mountain News Media newspaper to launch a “Steal the Deal” discount program in a local market. The program launched Saturday.
Vail Daily Advertising Director Cathy Ethington said the program is unique.
“Consumers can go to a local media site to learn about deals,” she said. People can learn about deals through both the print and online versions of the Vail Daily. Participating businesses can also use the print version of the paper to send customers to their online deals.
And those deals are substantial. Ethington said businesses can’t advertise a deal unless customers receive at least 50 percent off a product or service.
Steal the Deal is similar to Groupon in that users have to sign up for email alerts. The deals are also limited-time offers, and only a certain number of deals are available.
To sweeten interest in the program, the first 200 people who sign up will be entered in a drawing for a latest-generation Apple iPad.
Vail Daily Business Consultant Patrick Connolly said there are eight current deals for businesses including Agave, Simply Massage and Fiestas. The Simply Massage deal is an hour’s massage for $32.50
Ethington said only a few deals will be publicized at any time, in hopes that readers will have a choice few specials to choose from.
“We want readers to have exposure to new businesses they might not have thought of,” Ethington said. “It’s an exciting opportunity.”
