Vail Daily obituary: Stanton Gillis, 1948-2014
Ryan Summerlin February 21, 2014
Stan Gillis passed away in his sleep on Feb. 13 at his home in Vail.
Stan, a native Coloradan, was born Dec. 20, 1948. He had been a resident of Vail since 1973 and fully immersed himself in the Vail lifestyle and activities. He was an active skier, fisherman, scuba diver and an occasional low-caliber hunter. Stan was very proud of his service in the United States Army and enjoyed reliving stories of all his adventures.
Stan loved four-wheeling and was proud of his cover shot in a 1990 Four Wheeler Magazine with his cowboy hat firmly attached. He was also a poker player and had played in a 30-plus year poker group with his friends every Wednesday evening. The location would rotate between player locations and gourmet meals always started the game. Stan was a great chef and player.
Upon arriving in Vail, Stan started his locksmith company, Vail Security, and worked up until a few days before his passing. Stan never married. He is survived by his mother Jeana and brother Mark, of Littleton. He is preceded in death by his father Albert Gillis, who passed on June 3, 2013. His many friends will miss him dearly.
