Vail Daily obituary: Tom Krebs, 1957-2013
Ryan Summerlin April 22, 2013
Tom Krebs, 55, of Kuau, Hawaii, passed away in Hana, Maui, on April 14.-
There was celebration of his life at the Maui Country Club on Saturday, and a paddle-out the following day. In-Vail, a celebration is being planned for late summer including spreading his remains from Mount of the Holy Cross.
Tom is survived by his fiance, Lexi Holden; father Thomas G. Krebs, Sr.; mother Caroline Wagner Krebs; and sisters Marie K. O’Neil, Dorothy K. Sarro, Theresa Krebs and Charlotte K. Holtz.
He lived every minute to its fullest. Getting after it, whatever he was doing. Tom was happy in the mountains of Vail and Las Lenas, on the waves off Kuau, Maui, “Roving” in his vehicle, yachting between islands, and on the log by the Kuau windsurfing launch. He left an inordinate number of friends behind with the most uplifting and precious memories.-
Tom was a longtime coach at Ski and Snowboard Club Vail.
“Tom was a huge part of our program,” said John Cole, of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. “He’s been like family to Ski Club Vail for decades. We’re taking his loss hard. He was a coach who touched the lives of many young athletes and gave them a passion and love for skiing in the mountains. He was a very, very important part of our organization.”
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up that will benefit young skiers. Donations will be accepted by the Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Scholarship Fund in Tom’s name. For donation information, email email@example.com.
