Jim Cotter, local artist, jeweler, and owner of the J.Cotter Gallery, was asked to participate in “Rebel Metal: Red Gold” an exhibition curated and hosted by Aaron Farber. Cotter is one of only 21 artists to be included in this very unique and fun show. This show will be at the Aaron Faber Gallery in New York, N.Y. Wednesday through Oct. 27 and will then travel to Chicago, Ill. for during a metalsmithing conference, SOFA Chicago, where it will be on display from Nov. 1-4.
The 21 contemporary artists participating in the show have created jewelry pieces using red – sometimes known as rose – gold. Their work will be displayed with historical jewelry pieces using the same metal to show the contrast between classical use of rose gold and contemporary design with the same material.
Jim Cotter created pieces using his well-known free-form “Pollock” design with red gold instead of his traditional use of yellow or white gold. He has then taken these pieces to the next level by paveing the rose gold with black diamonds and setting big stones on them.
J. Cotter Gallery was established in 1970 in Vail. J. Cotter Gallery can be visited in Vail on Wall Street and in Beaver Creek Village on Market Square. For more information on this exhibition or Cotter’s jewelry, contact the J.Cotter studio at 970-827-4222 or at email@example.com.
