Vail streamwalk improvements under way
Ryan Summerlin April 9, 2013
VAIL, Colorado – Improvements to the Vail Village streamwalk between Vail Valley Drive and Ford Park are taking place. The work has been timed to coincide with ongoing Phase 1 construction at the park which has included a closure of the path. Streamwalk improvements include the regrading of path sections to reduce the maximum grade from the existing 17 percent to 8.4 percent and the realignment of a section of the path to remove it from the 100 year flood plain. The improvements will improve user comfort and reduce maintenance issues associated with the existing steep grades.-
Construction is to be completed in two phases. The first phase is taking place within the existing closure located east of the stairway at the Mountain View Residences. During this time, the streamwalk will remain open from Vail Valley Drive to Mountain View. The second phase will begin on April 15 and will involve heavy construction traffic from Vail Valley Drive. At that time, the entire streamwalk between Vail Valley Drive and Ford Park will be closed until the work is complete on June 1. Pedestrians will be directed to use the sidewalks along Vail Valley Drive and the South Frontage Road for access to Ford Park. The contractor is RA Nelson.
