Vail Valley Theatre Company brings story book to life

Have you had a chance to read this year’s One Book, One Valley book selection, “Into the Beautiful North,” by Luis Alberto Urrea? Copies of the book are flying off the shelves at The Bookworm of Edwards and local libraries, and community members are coming together to discuss the book in book clubs big and small.

One of many exciting (and free) community events supporting this valley-wide reading initiative is happening on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. Join fellow book lovers and watch the wonderful performers from the Vail Valley Theatre Company bring some of Urrea’s most memorable characters to life on the stage. Stick around after the performance to enjoy a taco buffet served by CMC’s Brainiac Cafe in homage to the book’s fictional taqueria, “La Mano Caida.” The Bookworm of Edwards will be onsite to sell copies of the book.

“Into the Beautiful North” was selected as the 2013 One Book, One Valley title for its appeal across age and gender lines as well as for its high literary merit. The book explores themes of immigration and cultural perceptions between the U.S. and Mexico, both of which resonate with our community. “Into the Beautiful North” is a fun read with interesting characters and is available in multiple formats (paperback, Spanish, eBook and audio book) through your local library and at The Bookworm of Edwards (at a 10 percent discount).

The One Book, One Valley initiative is a partnership between the Eagle Valley Library District, the Town of Vail Public Library, The Bookworm, and Colorado Mountain College. For a complete list of related events, go to http://www.colorado
