Vail Daily column: A chance to put our best foot forward

As we put a wonderful season to bed, the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships loom ahead and bring our focus to our community and our businesses. This upcoming summer will be jammed packed with a lot of sprucing of infrastructure and projects, both in the private and the public sectors, which will continue to put Vail and Beaver Creek at the forefront of the best resorts worldwide. Some are large, some are small, some will be completed in short order and some will be multi-year, but all have a common theme and that is to make where we call home the most desirable destination resort for our guests.

Make Your storefront repairs now

The town of Vail is driving the initiative of the 2015 Storefront Improvement Incentive Program, which began on March 1 and will run through Dec. 15. The opportunities abound and the town of Vail is backing up the campaign with one-time financial incentives for commercial landlords and their tenants within the town’s borders from East Vail to West Vail for retail storefronts and interior space improvements. The time for repairs and improvements is upon us and whether it be signage, lighting, awnings, facades or upgrades to help make our guests have a first and lasting positive impression of our resort.

From a larger viewpoint, we will see construction and improvements in both Vail and Beaver Creek. In Beaver Creek, Vail Resorts is replacing the Centennial Express chairlift with a combination chairlift and gondola, to be ready for the 2015 season. The town of Vail is widening the Frontage roads and repaving from East Vail to West Vail; Vail Village Welcome Center is being remodeled including more public restrooms; a face lift to the entrance to the Lionshead parking structure commenced April 21; and the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater is remodeling its entrance and the park will finish its two-year use and landscaping metamorphosis. In Lionshead, both the complete demolition and redevelopment of the former Lionshead Inn will begin as well as a face lift to the Vail 21 building located by the parking structure at the entrance to the commercial mall.

Put Our Best Foot Forward

The Vail Chamber and Business Association fully supports all of the infrastructure improvements within our resorts and are actively representing the needs of the business community. This is the moment to embark on a look at your particular business and see how you too can improve your image and quality to help maintain the first-class appearance of our resorts. Seize the opportunities afforded by the town of Vail’s Community Development Department and take advantage of the refunded permit fees for repairs and upgrades and other improvements for your stores and street level businesses. We have waited 16 years for the Alpine World Ski Championships to return to Vail and Beaver Creek, and this is our opportunity as a business community to put our best foot forward and welcome the world to our beautiful and vibrant community that we know as Vail and Beaver Creek. The Championships right around the corner, so join in and fix it, paint it, clean it and repair it to improve your business and celebrate the road to the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships.
