I was initially pleased to read an article about Michael Johnston’s forum

on Admendment 66 at the old Battle Mountain High School, as I thought it

presented a pretty level view on increasing school financing to the

benefit of pre-K, English-limited and otherwise unbalanced school funding

in Colorado.

That was, until I saw that the typical pre-scripted horse manure from the

Koch Brothers funded, but certainly un-independent “Independence

Institute” had been added to the end of the article. I had noticed this

tendency in the past in Wyrick’s chapter and verse recitation of the

Colorado Oil and Gas Association’s fracking defense, and have seen a

definite rightward (and downward) tilt in his writing that clearly reeked

of external sourcing, with a Tipton-esque level of originality and

laziness.

I had hoped the Daily set standards that prohibited this behavior in

non-editorial content. Let the columnists have at it in their diatribes;

that’s fun to read, but please ensure the beat writers remain objective,

and prevent them from promoting their biases.

The Daily should be better than that.

Thanks,

Mike Gehl
