Asking for an increase in these times is hard at best. The Gypsum Fire Protection District is not asking for your hard earned dollars in order to provide raises or buy new equipment. The Gypsum Fire Protection District is asking for your “yes” vote so they can maintain current budget levels. In order to do this, they need a temporary increase (expires in 2020) of 3.5 mills. What does this mean to us as taxpayers? If you have a home assessed at $200,000, you are currently paying 6.833 mills or a dollar amount of $108.75 a year. If you approve the mill levy increase, your annual cost would increase by $4.64 per month. This equates to an annual dollar amount of $164.46. This $4.64 a month will maintain current staffing levels, training and necessary repairs.
I ask you to look back through your records and you will see that this annual cost, if approved, is less than the annual amount you paid in 2010 for the same level of service.
