Acoustic yoga returns to the Vail Vitality Center

VAIL — Bringing music to the practice of yoga encourages expression and movement while brightening the experience. On Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., Vail Vitality Center yoga director Julia Clarke leads a fluid two-hour vinyasa yoga flow accompanied by international musician Kevin Paris.

Clarke says the class will be a meditative vinyasa experience opening practitioners up for fluid backbends, which are like “a healing balm for the heart in the heat of summer,” she said.

She also will add balance with rejuvenating hip openers, supported deep relaxation and meditation, all accompanied by Paris’ acoustic mastery.

“More and more we are seeing these beautiful collaborations between musicians and yoga teachers,” said Clarke. “Much of what we teach in yoga has to do with the idea of raising our energetic vibration, so what better way to do that than with the accompaniment of music?”

Paris performs around the world, collaborating with master yoga teachers at classes, retreats and yoga festivals. This is his second time performing in Vail with Clarke. Having lived in Brazil, South Africa and all around the U.S., Paris’ songwriting has grown into a folk-reggae-acoustic fusion. His music holds its roots in his travel, yoga, nature, love, relationships, introspection and the human experience. Paris delivers intimate, heart-filled performances.

“Live music adds a sense of vibrancy and community, and experiencing it during a yoga practice truly opens the practitioner up to the message in the music on a deeper level,” Clarke said.

For information or to register for the event, visit www.vailvitalitycenter.com or call 970-476-7960. The practice is open to members and Vail Vitality Center guests. Cost is $20 in advance and $30 the day of the workshop.
