GYPSUM – Starting Saturday, no Saturday at Mac’s Liquor in Gypsum will ever be the same.
“We’re going to have a beer and wine tasting every Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.,” said Mac’s owner Peter Struve. “We might do some spirit-tasting on occasion, but for the most part it will be focused on beer and wine.”
Gypsum Town Council approved the liquor-tasting license on Tuesday and Struve wasted no time getting started.
The tastings are free – just be sure to bring your ID.
Saturday’s tasting features two wines and two seasonal ales: Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay and Cavit Pinot Grigio, and New Belgium Rolle Bolle Ale and Blue Moon Agave Nectar Ale.
“It’s all about how those connect to summer and summer food,” Struve said.
He said the tastings are a good opportunity to educate customers about the different varietals.
“This is a chance to get people to try new things they might not otherwise,” Struve said. “I recently had my eyes opened about how refreshing beers made with fruit can be, and I’m a liquor store owner.”
Struve said some people are afraid of craft beers.
“There are some amazing Colorado craft beers out there, though,” he said.
As for the wines, customers might find some hidden gems.
“The price of the wine doesn’t always reflect the quality,” he said.
Sales reps will be on hand for at least part of the tasting to help answer any questions about the products. Some sale specials are likely to coincide with the beverages that are featured each week, too.
“Doing these tastings is something we’ve looked at for a while but the timing has not been right until now,” Struve said, noting that Mac’s Liquor marks 14 years of business at 106 Oak Ridge Drive this October.
