Thank you for everything

Thank you for everything
As you can tell, I've been writing this letter for a long time.
I've been thinking about this letter for a long time, it is long overdue. I apologize for the delay. There are no excuses, but there is a reason. This emotional stuff is hard to deal with.
As probably a vast majority of those who knew her already know, my wife, Janice Cerra passed away Aug. 8, 2013, after battling an insidious form of brain cancer called glio blastoma multiforme. It is a brutal disease. The median survival time is 14 months and the 5-year survival rate is less than 10 percent.
Janice survived for 15 months after diagnosis. And "survive" is the wrong word. She Lived. She battled. Never once did she in. I never heard her say "woe is me," It was never "why me?" always "I'm going to beat this thing!" Through emergency surgery, radiation, six or seven chemo drugs, steroid-caused avascular necrosis … Man, that chick was tough.
Then the disease took away her awareness that she was sick, but not her toughness. It took her to a place where she felt surrounded by love, buoyed by her faith. Until the last few days she reached out to everyone who visited, wanting to talk about what was going on in their lives, not what was going on in her head.
There were a couple of hard days, then she slipped into unconsciousness, and in the end it was peaceful. She simply stopped breathing. She was at home, surrounded by love.
Now to the real reason for this letter: Thank you, all of you.
For the past 18 (now 21) months or so, our family has been through some rough times. But without the help of our family, friends and this community it would have been much worse.
When I say this community, I mean to include the lacrosse folks. A finer group could not be assembled. From the smallest gestures of a call or card to the greatest of closing your restaurant to hold a benefit, all helped to ease the pain and anxiety, and continue to do so.
Your beneficence allowed me to essentially not work during Janice's time of need, giving us the time to give Janice the support she needed and deserved.
There are way too many of you to start naming names. You know who you are. Please know that you carry our eternal gratitude with you.
That said, I must acknowledge Lisa and Tom Ludwig. Thank you.
TC, Caitlin, Lauren and Tom Cerra
