Vail Daily letter: Harvey for sheriff
Ryan Summerlin June 19, 2014
When Daric Harvey first announced that he would be running for Eagle County sheriff, my initial thought was that I wanted to volunteer on his campaign because I felt that our county was in need of a change. Now that I have had the opportunity to learn more about his views and his vision for a better Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, I am glad that I got involved.
Over the past few weeks I have had the privilege of watching Daric engage with people in various parts of the county. In that time I have gained a great respect for him as a person. He loves to meet people and is genuinely interested in and concerned about what everyone has to say. He has spoken with people from all political affiliations and those who claim to have no interest in the whole process. It doesn’t matter how the conversation begins, it always comes around to Daric saying, “Tell me your concerns.” You don’t have to know Daric long to realize that he sincerely wants to know what everyone has to say.
Typically, I am not a person who “talks politics.” I view the election for the office of sheriff to be less about politics and more as an opportunity for all of us to choose who leads the Sheriff’s Office and uphold our laws. I firmly believe that we owe it to ourselves to elect Daric Harvey our next Eagle County sheriff — not because he is a Democrat, but because he has the experience, drive and compassion that the Eagle County Sheriff’s office needs and deserves.
