Vail Daily letter: Promoting avalanche education
Ryan Summerlin March 26, 2014
Earlier this month White Room Adventures, an AIARE provider, teamed up with Paragon Guides in Edwards to offer an experimental Level 1 avalanche class. The experiment was to see if we could provide a subsidized class to locals and, in addition, rally area businesses to offer scholarships to students. Our goal was to provide three students with scholarships. We had such an overwhelming response from local businesses we were able to provide two full scholarships, one to a local youth, and partial scholarships to all of our other students. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the following businesses for caring about avalanche education in our valley:
• Avon Bakery and Deli.
• Lakota Guides.
• Double Diamond Ski Shop.
• Paragon Guides.
• Buck Elliot.
• The Tony Seibert Memorial Fund.
• The Chris Anthony Youth Initiative.
• Four Seasons Landscaping.
We will be putting together a “Thank You, CAIC” benefit on April 17. Location TBA. Please help keep the Colorado Avalanche Information Center funded and help finance the hiring of two much-needed forecasters. Twenty-five percent of CAIC funding comes from individual supporters like you. For more information, please email me at email@example.com.
