Vail Daily letter: Volunteer impact
April 13, 2014
National Volunteer Week (April 6 to 12) was the perfect time to reflect on Junior Achievement's amazing impact in the Vail Valley. Volunteers are the heart of Junior Achievement and this year, more than 60 volunteers from dozens of companies in the Vail Valley will teach more than 100 JA programs in Eagle County!
Thanks to the support of these passionate volunteers and the dedication from our local educators, student outreach in the Vail Valley has increased from just 35 students in 2004-05 to an expected 2,000 during the 2013-14 school year.
Importantly, the Vail Valley is playing a critical role in Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain Inc.'s strategic imperative to increase the number of students who benefit from programs at the middle and high school levels. The goal is to ensure students are getting the information they need about making financial decisions, preparing for the workforce and/or starting their own business enterprise when they are transitioning to adulthood. Of Vail Valley student participants last year, we are proud to say that 70 percent were middle and high school students!
In addition to traditional JA programming, a record number of Eagle County students are also participating in JA's "capstone" programs. Last year, 363 local students participated in JA Finance Park virtual, one student attended JA Business Week, 124 local students participated and attended the JA Stock Market Challenge and 101 students participated in the JA Capitalism with a Conscience program.
Thank you for playing a role in ensuring that our local students are prepared and inspired to succeed in the 21st century economy! We couldn't do it without your support!
