Vail Daily letter: Langmaid for Vail council

Kim Langmaid, in addition to having all of the credentials necessary to make an outstanding Vail Town Council member, has proven herself to be unique in terms of her understanding and passion for sustaining Vail as a great place to live and raise a family. As a third-generation Vail resident, Kim is dedicated to the Vail community as a whole and to maintaining its sense of community and quality of life.

After attending elementary and high school in Vail and learning to appreciate all that the town and area have to offer, she took the initiative of establishing the Gore Range Natural Science School to help teach others to understand and protect our local environment. That school has grown into the multi-million dollar Walking Mountains Science Center and now serves over 30,000 people annually with programs at the Vail Nature Center, Vail Mountain, Meadow Mountain and Avon for students and adult residents and visitors.

As vice president and director of sustainability and stewardship programs at Walking Mountains, Kim works with her staff and community partners to help Vail and other communities become more environmentally sustainable through energy efficiency programs, Zero Waste events, and land stewardship projects with the U.S. Forest Service. Kim has also helped train over 100 local businesses in sustainability best-practices through the Actively Green sustainable business certification program. She personally leads an effort to make Vail and Eagle County a model for sustainable practices.

Kim is a real treasure for our valley and will make a great addition to the Vail Town Council.
