Vail Daily letter: Seeking your vote
My name is Christopher Pryor and I’m reaching out to you for support in the upcoming Western Eagle County Metropolitan Recreation District (WECMRD) board of directors election on Tuesday. For those of you who may not know me directly, I live in Edwards with my wife, Kristen, and our three children, Jack (9), Brady (5), and Peyton (6 months). We have lived in the Vail Valley for just short of a decade and are very active with youth sports, volunteering and enjoying the mountain lifestyle we love.
Growing up in Colorado, I spent my high school years working for the YMCA managing facilities and running youth programs in southwest Denver. Years later while in graduate school, I worked for the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets managing their sports marketing programs and events. I then spent the last 15 years working in the marketing and business development fields for a national trade association and other event related companies. During these periods of my life, I gained valuable experience and exposure with the management and marketing of programs, facilities and events, along with how successful organizations manage and operate on a day-to-day basis.
It’s because of this experience that I’ve built a strong belief in the foundation that youth sports, activity programs and facilities can build for our children and families. Children and adults alike learn and experience many life skills in these programs such as how to work with a team, how to be coachable, and showing and earning respect. We also learn how to take risks and challenge ourselves, and lastly how to behave when we win or lose. As a parent and participant, my contributions to support these beliefs will only continue to grow with this opportunity and my family’s involvement with WECMRD.
I’m running for the WECMRD board of directors because I see this as an opportunity to help the WECMRD leadership create better communication strategies and improve the marketing of its programs and facilities use. I also believe that I can add assistance in creating better partnerships with our local schools, club sports programs, and to foster development programs for our county. Lastly, I feel it is important for the WECMRD leadership to take better consideration of staff retention and support. Given the amount of time and the relationships that these staff members form with our children and families, I want to make sure the organization’s culture is one that values the staff members and allows them to evolve and flourish within the organization and our community.
I believe my experience, values and beliefs make me an ideal candidate and that I will be an asset for the WECMRD board. Thank you for your consideration and I ask for your support when voting on May 3.
