Vail Daily letter: Becoming a mentor

Eagle County’s Buddy Mentors Program recently hosted a recruitment party at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa in Avon. The successful celebration netted 27 potential Senior Buddies to be paired with local youth, also known as Junior Buddies! Buddy Mentors strive to inspire and foster youth through consistent and trusting relationships. The program is based on the national Big Brothers Big Sisters model of mentorship and is directed by Bright Future Foundation, a nonprofit empowering families and individuals affected by violence in our community.

Thank you to Bonfire Brewing donating a keg of “Buddy Blonde” to the event, and to Renegade Sons for providing the live music that made the evening special. We appreciate the support of the Vail Daily in promoting this opportunity to recruit new Buddies. Most of all, we are grateful to the current Senior and Junior Buddies who attended and shared their heartwarming personal stories with potential Buddies.

Bright Future received a grant from Tony Grampsas Youth Services, a statutory program providing funding to local organizations that work with youth and their families. The grant has allowed us to increase our Buddy Mentors recruitment and marketing with hopes of attracting new, qualified mentors to the program.

Our goal is to double the Buddy Mentors Program, from 40 to 80 mentor pairings. We’re off to a great start in reaching our goal! If you would like to learn more about becoming a mentor, please contact Bright Future’s Belle Hollandsworth at 970-763-7208.
