AVON — Studio Anjali at The Westin is hosting a vinyasa and backbending yoga workshop on Sept. 14 with Ty Landrum, a leading instructor at Boulder’s Yoga Workshop.
Landrum is an advanced ashtanga practitioner and an avid student of the classical yoga tradition. His background in philosophy allows him to communicate subtle ideas in colorful and metaphorical terms. His workshops fuse the ancient wisdom of the classical yoga tradition with experiential explorations of the mind, body and breath.
Open to both beginner and advanced practitioners, the vinyasa workshop will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 14 and the backbending workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The signature of vinyasa yoga is the graceful integration of posture, gaze and breath. Vinyasa brings a tremendous expansion of prana — or vital energy — inducing a profound psychophysical effect. In this workshop, attendees will explore the idea of vinyasa as a contemplative form. Using some key vinyasa sequences with the breath as a guide, attendees will see how subtle changes in the quality of the breath can deepen our experience of the poses. The intention is to discover resources to cultivate a smoother, stronger and more rhythmic vinyasa practice.
Backbends are the most uplifting of the poses. They increase prana, while also teaching attendees to hold steadily in a posture of openness and vulnerability. In the ashtanga vinyasa system, backbends are integrated into every vinyasa, and each sequence concludes with a distinct sequence of backbends. In this workshop, attendees will learn to approach backbends with proper alignment, refined awareness and concerted movement. Techniques will be offered for progressive deepening.
